A collection of three original Bible Study Series produced for Biblesoft, offering a unique and engaging in-depth study of the Scriptures. The Pentecost-themed studies deal with the subject of the Holy Spirit and the Sermon-speeches in the Book of Acts.
These Bible Study Series were produced and created especially by Biblesoft, for use in the PC Study Bible and OneTouch programs. It has been taken from articles and notes written for our Bible Online Study Site, and been adapted for use as an electronic reference work. Each study provides in-depth analysis of the Greek (or Hebrew) text of Scripture, along with an extensive examination of the historical and cultural background, questions of interpretation, and more!
Especially for Pentecost, we have bundled together a number of Study series dealing with the Holy Spirit and the book of Acts (also available for separate purchase):
The Spirit of God in the Old Testament
Originally created as a series of daily notes for the four weeks (20 weekdays) prior to Pentecost, these studies can be used as a monthly or seasonal Bible study course. These 20 studies explore references to the Spirit of God in the Old Testament. Each study provides in-depth analysis of the (Hebrew) text of Scripture, along with an examination of the historical background and key points of interpretation.
The Sending of the Spirit, and Other Studies on the Holy Spirit
Here we offer a collection of Study Series on the subject of the Holy Spirit:
The Sending of the Spirit—a three-part study on the Pentecost Narrative in Acts 2, along with the separate tradition in John 20:20-23.
The Holy Spirit in the Gospel Tradition—detailed studies on the key passages in the Gospels, along the lines of the series Jesus and the Gospel Tradition
"...Spirit and Life"—inspired by the saying of Jesus in John 6:63, these studies examine the use of the words "Spirit" and "Life" in the New Testament, primarily the special significance these words hold in the Gospel and Letters of John.
The Earliest Christian Preaching: The Speeches of Acts
This particular series deals with the Sermon-Speeches in the Book of Acts, from the great Pentecost speech of Peter in chapter 2 through the Areopagus speech by Paul in chapter 17. For each sermon-speech, the Greek text is examined in detail, as well as the historical background and literary setting in the narrative. Citations from the Old Testament are careful studied—both the original context and how the passages are interpreted and applied in the Acts speeches. Difficult points of interpretation, theology and historical criticism are dealt with thoroughly. If you have ever had a question about any of these sermon-speeches, you are likely to find it addressed in these studies!
Both the Study series and the additional notes function as a Commentary in the program, and can be accessed by verse directly under the Commentary menu.
We hope that you will find these studies to be rewarding, provocative, and inspiring!
