This Bible Study Series was produced and created especially by Biblesoft, for use in the PC Study Bible and OneTouch programs. It has been taken from articles and notes written for our Bible Online Study Site, and been adapted for use as an electronic reference work. Originally created for Easter season 2019, it is divided into several dozen studies, along with a number of supplemental notes, and can be used as a monthly or seasonal Bible study course. Each study provides in-depth analysis of the Greek (or Hebrew) text of Scripture, along with an extensive examination of the historical and culture background, questions of interpretation, and more!
This particular series deals with the traditions involving Jesus—the sayings, teachings, miracles, and other episodes—as they have been recorded in the four Gospels of the New Testament. These studies explore the development of this Gospel Tradition, examining five specific lines of tradition: (a) the Synoptic (Triple) tradition represented primarily by Mark, (b) the so-called "Q" material shared by Matthew and Luke, (c) traditions and details unique to Matthew, and (d) to Luke, and (e) traditions (and development of tradition) found especially in the Gospel of John. Three main areas of study are addressed, dividing the series into three parts:
The Baptism of Jesus (including traditions involving Jesus and John the Baptist)
The Galilean Ministry Period of Jesus (represented primarily by the Synoptic tradition), and
The Passion Narrative
Each part is further divided into distinct episodes with the Gospel narratives, with key passages and verses examined in considerable detail.
Both the Study series and the additional notes function as a Commentary in the program, and can be accessed by verse directly under the Commentary menu.
We hope that you will find these studies to be rewarding, provocative, and inspiring!
