This Bible Study Series was produced and created especially by Biblesoft, for use in the PC Study Bible and OneTouch programs. It has been taken from articles and notes written for our Bible Study Blog (see its new location) and been adapted for use as an electronic reference work. We have brought together three different Study Series, originally posted during Advent/Christmas season, each of which can be used as a monthly or seasonal Bible study course. Each study provides in-depth analysis of the Greek (or Hebrew) text of Scripture, along with an extensive examination of the historical and culture background, questions of interpretation, and more!
The three Study Series are:
The Old Testament and the Birth of Jesus—studies on the key Old Testament passages related to the birth of Jesus and the Infancy Narratives (Matt 1-2, Luke 1-2), including detailed critical discussion of the famous prophecies in Isaiah 7:14 and 9:6-7.
"And You Shall Call His Name..."—studies on names and naming in the Infancy Narratives, especially the names and (Messianic) titles used of Jesus, along with an examination of the most important names of God.
The Birth of the Son of God—studies on all of the most significant New Testament passages involving childbirth and birth-imagery, especially those related to the birth of Jesus and to the (spiritual) birth of believers as sons/children of God.
In addition, you will find a detailed article ("What the Angelic Chorus Said...") on the textual variants, and related text-critical questions, in the Infancy Narratives, as well as other supplemental notes and articles dealing with the religious and cultural background of the Gospel account of Jesus' birth.
Both the Study series and the additional notes function as a Commentary in the program, and can be accessed by verse directly under the Commentary menu. You will find it in the Commentary and Books menus, both under the grouping "Biblesoft Study Series".
We hope that you will find these studies to be rewarding, provocative, and inspiring!
