Product Information

This important work on the Gospels by W. O. E. Oesterley, The Gospel Parables in the Light of their Jewish Background (1936), follows in the path of scholars such as Gustav Dalman (The Words of Jesus) in offering a detailed critical and exegetical treatment of the Parables of Jesus, primarily in terms of how they would have been understood by Jews at the time (in the early-mid 1st century A.D.). Drawing upon earlier lectures, Oesterley, examines the Parables according to three main categories—(1) the main Synoptic parables on the "mystery" of the Kingdom of God, (2) other (Synoptic) parables of the Kingdom, and (3) the parables that are original/unique to the Gospel of Luke.

This title (also available as part of our Judaism and the New Testament Supplemental Collection #1) can be accessed from the Books menu, under the "Judaism and the New Testament" collector, as well as separately under "Works of W. O. E. Oesterley". It can be used as a Commentary, accessing the studies by Bible verse, under "Additional Commentary Material" in the Commentary menu.
