The distinctive features of the New American Commentary:

  • Consistently supports an inerrancy view of Scripture
  • Thorough, verse-by-verse analysis
  • Sound scholarly methodology that reflects comprehensive research in the original languages
  • Revered for practical, applicable exposition
  • Interpretation that emphasizes the theological unity of each book
  • Analysis that engages the range of issues raised in contemporary biblical scholarship
  • Now available in five collections covering major divisions of the Old and New Testaments

The New American Commentary represents the finest in contemporary evangelical scholarship, and lends itself to the practical work of preaching and teaching.

This series, more than a decade in the making, continues in the line of the An American Commentary which was produced at the end of the nineteenth century. Like the older series, the volumes of The New American Commentary come from scholars with explicit commitments to the infallibility of scripture.

From the editors preface:

The New American Commentary authors affirm the divine inspiration, inerrancy, complete truthfulness, and full authority of the Bible. The perspective of the NAC is unapologetically confessional and rooted in the evangelical tradition.... Thus, the commentary concentrates on theological exegesis, while providing practical, applicable exposition.-

While rooted in conservative theology, The New American Commentary honestly and boldly engages the range of theological and exegetical issues raised in contemporary biblical scholarship.

The New American Commentary-s aim is to be mid-level, less technical than the New International Commentary series, but much more expansive than virtually any other NIV-based series. All the volumes are readable to those without strong seminary training. Its distinctive perspective is to place a greater emphasis on theology than is common in more detailed commentary series.
