Arthur Tappan Pierson (1837-1911) was a Baptist pastor, preacher, and author who exerted considerable influence as an advocate for world missions and evangelism, both in America and around the world. A friend of leading ministers and missionaries such as Charles Spurgeon, D. L. Moody, C. I. Scofield, A. J. Gordon, and George Müller (on whom he wrote a biography). Pierson succeeded Spurgeon at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London (1891-3), and was a consulting editor for the original "Scofield Reference Bible" (1909). However, he is best known today for his writings on missions and evangelism, and as an advocate for foreign missions. He was a leading figure of the student missionary movement, and his published works, documenting the growing Missions Movement of the 19th century, remain popular today.
