William Barclay (1907-1978) - A scottish minister and professor at the University of Glasgow. Described as a 'liberal evangelical', Barclay took great care to exegete scripture. His works are filled with historical references and original-language meanings and explanations.

Barclay's chief work, Daily Study Bible, examines the entire New Testament a handful of verses at a time. He goes section by section providing all possible interpretations and historically relevant information known to him at the time. He takes great care to share these thoughts in an easy-to-read and accessible manner.

While controversial in many fundamental circles, Barclay proves challenging and thought provoking with his presentation and theology. With an emphasis on study and action, he seeks to provide adequate incentive for the christian to do something with what they learn.

"There can be no standing still in the Christian life. It is told that on his pocket Bible Cromwell had a motto written in Latin—qui cessat esse melior cessat esse bonus—he who ceases to be better ceases to be good."
